An Update About Our Slow Progress

It has been a little over a month and we are making progress.  We have been clearing and cleaning up junk and that has been the easy part of the project.  The toughest part of getting up and running has been dealing with utilities and contractors.

We have finally made progress by getting a job number assigned by the electric company to get ‘new’ service.   Apparently they don’t have a record of the old service that was there, so they want to make it a ‘new’ service.  Calling for new service has been the most difficult thing.  First we had to get an official address for the property because that was never done.  After that, I called the number again for new service and here is how the conversation goes:

Electric Company: “New service department” Me: “I want new service installed” Electric Company: “Account Number?”  (I don’t have one)  “what is the address” (I got one after jumping major hoops)  “We don’t have that address in our system” (I know because it is a new address and it hasn’t had service in a long time) “What is your account number?”  (I WANT NEW SERVICE).

We have cleared out several acres and cleaned out the barn and the house.   Saturday is a mushroom growing class!

Ben Island Doesn’t Have a Zip Code

While double checking on the address, I went to http://maps.huge.info/zip.htm and confirmed the zip code.  What I found really interesting is that Ben Island doesn’t have a zip code!  So will Ben secede from the US when he posts his flag on Ben Island? Probably not but at least we know it will be a true “get away” from all the stresses in the world.

Neverdun Farms Is Getting A New Home

After a long spell of renting farms, we have just went into contract to purchase an old farm in Clermont.  We are very excited and nervous but we think it is the right thing to do.  There isn’t much left on the old farm but with our rose-colored glasses firmly on we see our new home.
